International Championships

The International Series is the pinnacle of Paper Tiger Catamaran racing. The event is held two years out of every three, on the Easter weekend. The venue for the International Series currently alternates between Australia and New Zealand.

Each country sends a team of ten boats (the top ten from each country's previous Nationals) and, with the use of a 40ft shipping container, the visiting country can also send an additional ten boats. The host nation then provides up to an additional 20 boats to make up a fleet of at least 40-50 boats.

Champion Team

Besides the competition to become the International Champion, the National Teams also compete for the title of Champion Team, which is awarded to the team with the lowest total score.

Other Countries

Paper Tiger Catamaran sailors from other countries are welcome to compete and can apply by contacting one of the Paper Tiger Catamaran International Association committee, or by e-mailing us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . For a country to enter as a team and to compete for the teams trophy, they must have a minimum of seven boats in their team. If a team enters less than ten boats, their total points are multiplied by the appropriate factor to equate their score with that of a team of ten boats. South Africa competed in 1980 at the series which was held at Yarra Bay in Sydney.
